AC & Heating Repair in Memorial, Houston TX
Retrofitting modern equipment into a 1960s house is its own skill. The ducts, the returns and the electrical were not designed for what we are installing today.
We actually know Memorial
What working Memorial every week teaches you
Getting to you
Memorial is a straight run east from Katy down I-10. Our Houston operations office on the Katy Freeway sits right in this corridor.
The housing stock
This is the oldest housing in our service area by a wide margin. Much of Memorial went up between the 1950s and the 1970s, and a great deal of it is original — which changes the plumbing conversation completely.
The water
City of Houston municipal supply. Hardness is less of a headline here than what decades of it have already done to original galvanized and cast iron.
The local pattern
Heating & Air problems we see most in Memorial
Original ductwork that was never sized for modern equipment
Mid-century duct systems were built around lower airflow requirements and looser efficiency expectations. Drop a modern high-efficiency system onto them and it will underperform its rating — the duct is the bottleneck, not the box.
Undersized or nonexistent return air
A lot of these homes have one central return for the whole house. The system starves, the coil ices, and the rooms furthest from the air handler never quite get there.
Additions and remodels on the original system
Memorial homes have been added to for sixty years, frequently without recalculating the load. The result is a system trying to condition significantly more square footage than it was sized for, running constantly and still losing.

281-601-1513Can a modern AC work in a 1960s Memorial house?
Yes, but the ductwork usually has to be addressed with it. Original duct systems were not sized for the airflow modern equipment needs, so installing high-efficiency equipment onto them delivers well under the rated performance.
We added on and now the AC cannot keep up. Is the unit bad?
More likely it is now undersized. Additions frequently go in without recalculating the cooling load, so the original system is trying to condition a significantly larger house. We measure the actual load before recommending anything.
Do you work in the Memorial Villages?
Yes. Memorial, the Villages, Spring Branch and the Katy Freeway corridor are all inside our service area — our Houston operations office is on the Katy Freeway.
